frequently asked questions.
When should I start classes?
You can start hypnobirthing at any time, but it is recommended that the optimal time to start your course is between 20 and 30 weeks. This will give you time to practise the self-hypnosis, relaxation and other effective techniques for gentle, easy birthing but also ensures that the course is still fresh in your mind. If you over 30 weeks, please do not worry. You can definitely still attend the group classes and achieve a positive birth experience or give us a call and we can set something up privately as a condensed version for you.
Who should I bring along to the course with me?
Bring yourself and your birth partner. Your birth partner can be your partner, sister, mother, best friend, doula - whoever it is you feel will best support you in your pregnancy and birth. If you'd prefer to come on your own then that is absolutely fine too, whichever you prefer, this is your pregnancy and birth.
Will hypnobirthing be of use if I don’t want a natural childbirth or if circumstances require medical intervention or a caesarean birth?
It most certainly will! There are many reasons why a natural childbirth doesn't happen, be it by medical intervention or as the mum's choice. In our programme, you will learn relaxation skills that will be useful to both you and your baby, regardless of your childbirth experience. In the event that medical intervention is needed, hypnobirthing will help you to remain calm, in control and better able to make decisions with the antenatal part of the course ensuring you are informed about the many the birth scenarios.
Mothers who used hypnobirthing with scheduled caesareans for medical reasons report that they felt relaxed before, during and after the procedure thanks to the techniques learned. In our programme we prepare you for various scenarios and even discuss the ever growing practice of "natural caesareans" (ways you can make a caesarean gentler for you and baby). The tools and techniques you learn in hypnobirthing will also help in the postpartum period, helping in your recovery.
Can hypnobirthing benefit someone with special circumstances, VBAC or who must have a caesarean birth?
Our programme is very beneficial to those with special circumstances. Many medical professionals are now requesting that mothers take a hypnobirthing course or similar before VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) as it has been shown to be very effective. Should you have special circumstances, we will support you by tailoring the course to your specific needs and providing you with extra information for your situation. We are all about supporting every mother and their birth partner; regardless of how your baby is born and will be accessible to you to talk to via telephone and email, right up until your baby is born.
